I'm Michelle, a licensed Clinical Social Worker and EMDR Therapist, committed to helping individuals navigate through trauma in its many forms. Trauma extends beyond major catastrophic events to include experiences like bullying, emotional abuse, and financial stress.
Understanding EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy utilizes bilateral stimulation techniques to process distressing memories. This can occur through eye movements, self-tapping, or other methods that reduce the emotional intensity associated with these memories.
I've trained in the SAFE approach through the Personal Transformation Institute, integrating somatic and attachment-focused techniques into my EMDR sessions to create comprehensive healing environments.
The Collaborative Process
One distinctive feature of EMDR is its collaborative foundation. Rather than the therapist directing conversation as in traditional talk therapy, clients actively engage in their healing journey. Their brains generate insights and solutions, allowing individuals to work through trauma at their own pace.
Building Resilience
EMDR extends beyond addressing past trauma. It equips clients with tools for future resilience. Together, we develop coping skills and resources that clients can apply both during and outside sessions, enabling emotional regulation and effective trigger management.
Transformative Outcomes
I've witnessed remarkable transformations through EMDR: clients reclaiming self-worth, releasing shame and guilt, and discovering peace and empowerment. This reflects each person's resilience and the profound healing capacity within.
