Who we see in Berkeley

The patterns that bring Berkeley clients in.

A lot of our Berkeley clients live somewhere in the academic orbit — grad students at the three-year mark wondering whether the PhD is still the goal, post-docs at the long end of the contract, faculty navigating tenure pressure, research staff whose brain has been in overdrive for a decade. Academic burnout has its own flavor: it rewards you for overriding your own signals, and then leaves you surprised when the signals stop showing up at all.

We also see a lot of Berkeley clients outside the university — activists reckoning with the emotional cost of sustained political work, folks in the queer and polyamorous communities looking for a therapist who won't be weird about any of it, creatives and freelancers whose nervous system has been running on deadline-adrenaline for years. Late-diagnosis ADHD is common: smart people who finally asked the question after a lifetime of being told they just needed to try harder.

The clinical thread across most of it: you're probably here because the strategies that got you this far stopped working, and you're not interested in therapy that ignores that. Good. Neither are we.

FAQ

Common questions from Berkeley clients.

Do you see clients who live in Berkeley?

+

Yes. Berkeley is part of our core service area. We're telehealth-first across California, so Berkeley clients meet with us via secure video — from home, office, lab, or campus. No driving across the bridge, no parking in the Elmwood.

Are you neurodivergent-affirming?

+

Yes. We work with late-diagnosis ADHD, autism, and the broader question of being wired differently — without framing neurodivergence as a deficit. Our approach is affirmative: we're interested in how your brain actually works, not how it should work. See our ADHD and neurodiversity-affirming therapy page for specifics.

Do you work with non-monogamous and queer relationships?

+

Yes, explicitly. Polyamory, open relationships, relationship anarchy, and queer relationship structures are valid contexts for therapy — not problems to be fixed. No teaching required. We do the real relational work inside whatever structure you've built.

I'm a grad student or post-doc. Can I afford this?

+

Maybe. We offer sliding scale spots that vary by therapist, and most PPO plans (including Anthem, Blue Shield, Aetna, and UC's student health SHIP) cover a portion of our fee through out-of-network benefits. We're also in-network with Lyra if your employer offers it. Mention your situation during the free consult.
